Soft washing vs. pressure washing a roof
Soft washing uses low pressure and a cleaning solution. Pressure washing relies on high-pressure water. Many roof cleaning companies prefer soft washing on roofs, but methods vary, so ask each company what it uses on your roof.
Soft washing
Low-pressure spray with a cleaning solution that treats algae and mold, followed by a rinse. Commonly used on tile and shingle roofs.
Pressure washing
High-pressure water. Often used on concrete and pavers. On roofs, high pressure can damage some materials, which is why many companies avoid it there.
Questions to ask any company
- What method and pressure do you use on my roof type?
- What products do you use, and how do you protect plants and pools?
- Does your method follow the roof manufacturer's guidance?
- Are you insured if something is damaged?
Questions
Which is better for my roof?
It depends on the roof. Ask companies to explain their method for your roof type.
Can I clean my roof myself?
Roof work involves fall risk and can damage roofing. Many homeowners hire a company for that reason.
